Morir de amor

Raphael was one of the men of the Renaissance. His life was full of artistic awards, gold coins, women and works that will last forever. However the cause of death was what caught the attention of his biographers. Died at 37 years of "excess of love."
The author of the School of Athens was the dream candidate for the youth of the Roman aristocracy, and their parents, obviously. Was harassed daily, however noble they offered their "decent and neat" descendants. But Rafael was not interested in these daughters of high society with expensive clothes and collars of pearls, preferred the daughter of a simple and humble baker, who had carved out a fragile heart.
She was Margherita Luti, and was known as "La Fornarina." Rafael was in love with her. So in love, that on one occasion, his dear friend Agostino Chigi commissioned a work outside the city, and realizing he could not do without it, persuaded him to pay them the trip to them. However
was a reluctant love social exposure. The evil and envious tongues her accused her of being a famous woman of "easy life." And again, he was "socially engaged" with the niece of a prestigious Cardinal. Rafael was a man of great faith and a strong relationship with the church, and therefore could not refuse. But never use that relationship for the sake of Margherita.
Despite all these impediments, Rafael was not going to leave, and dying of love for her. But dying of love for Rafael, it was not only the romantic, if not a true harbinger. Rafael was one of the few who managed to turn that phrase into a reality.
Doctors attributed his death on April 6, 1520, to a night of excessive practice of sex with his mistress. Literally died of love.
Four months later, Margherita Luti, retired to the Convent of Santa Apollonia Trastevere to become a nun, where he remained until his death.
